Report: Ryan Flaherty anticipated to be named Cubs (13th Jan 24 at 3:06am UTC)Quote Reply

According to Britt Ghiroli of The Athletic, San Diego Padres bench coach/offensive coordinator Ryan Flaherty is headed to the Chicago Cubs to train with Craig Counsell.Ryan Flaherty is expected to be named Cubs bench instructor, resources inform The Athletic. Flaherty was a finalist for the Padres managerial job that went to Mike Shildt. Had previously functioned as Padres bench trainer. Currently will certainly hold the exact same duty in Chicago under Craig Counsell.-- Britt Ghiroli November 29, 2023Flaherty is a fave of Preller's and was one of the finalists for the job that mosted likely to Mike Shildt. This feels like a circumstance where Shildt and/or Flaherty informed Preller to select both goes. It would've been a little unpleasant for Shildt to have one more finalist Jay Groome Jersey, that's so well considered by Preller, on his mentoring team (while Shildt's just on a two-year contract as well). Previous Padre Greg Garcia told me today he believes Flaherty is a future manager. "Things regarding Flash is that he will certainly be a manager at some time. There's no doubt, " Garcia stated. "He has so much understanding of the game and places a lot effort into that."Going to Counsell's staff is a little unusual to me taking into consideration Counsell had a seasoned instructor in Pat Murphy all those years with the Milwaukee Brewers prior to leaving for Wrigley Field. Currently with Flaherty gone, it'll be intriguing to see that finishes up being on Shildt's team. Phil Nevin-- a previous bench trainer, 3rd base train and manager-- is still available and so is Adrian Gonzalez. Both spoken with for the work and probably Gonzalez-- who has no training experience-- want to find out under Shildt if he intends to be a supervisor someday. Or possibly Shildt doesn't want any instructors on the staff that talked to for the work. We need to soon figure out.
